PVC processing Aids are high molecular weight MMA copolymers
typically from 200.000 to 3 millions g/mol. These products
have excellent compatibility with PVC. They are used
to speed up the gelation times, to achieve better homogeneity
of the melt, and improve its mechanical properties (more
elasticity, higher strength to prevent tearing). The
efficiency regarding the mechanical properties is generally
related to the molecular weight.
These copolymers containing styrene have a PVC compatible
phase and a PVC incompatible phase. The presence of
styrene in these processing aids brings some lubrication
effect. The releasability from hot metal parts such
as dies, calendering rolls, injection moulds, is improved
without the disadvantage of plate-out brought by many
external lubricants.
Process aids can generally provide the following benefits:
• Promote compound fusion |
• Improve surface gloss |
• Promotes die swell (prevents draw down) |
• Improve hot melt strength |
• Improve appearance of PVC foam |
• Improve raw material dispersion |
• Improve metal release |
• Prevents build-up of product |
• Prevents plate-out |
• Delays fusion
and reduce torque |
